During the day, leis began being handed out to passersby. They were remade from streamers that were displayed last year. They were taken home by each family, and the hope was that the words "No More Hiroshima" would be reflected in the message. One man, who grew up hearing about the devastation from his grandfather, who experienced the Sendai air raid in July, received a lei while saying, "There should never be a war that doesn't treat humans as humans."
Also, a man who said he was a former member of the Self-Defense Forces said, "Peace is truly important."
